BLk 98 Whampoa View RC Garden

Just thought that I should include the Blk 98 community garden here too. It has taken about 3 to 4 years for this garden to complete. Nonetheless, plants are growing now.

We had a meeting today to discuss about how we are to move forward with the garden.

Members involved in the planning were:-

a) Jeremy (CC representative)
b) Sook Ee (RC representative)
c) Selina (member)
d) Melvin (member)
e) Leonard (member)

We decided to hold a tea party to introduce members and a chance to share what is in store for the garden, as well as, how our garden should operate.

Besides the tea party, we also discussed about the challenges that we are facing:-

i) over flooding of planting plots during heavy rainy seasons:
  • Mr Lim suggested to use bricks and dig trenches to channel the water so that the roots will not be soaking themselves in water.
ii) improving soil quality: (clay soil becoming concrete hard after a few down pours)
  • Mr Lim is mixing organic matter (sugarcane waste) into the soil to loosen it up. But it wasn't enough to cover the entire garden and it is simply too much of an effort to chop the organic matter up.
  • We will check to see if we can purchase new compost to mix into the soil.
The next meet up will be on 10/Oct/2014 at 4:30pm....

Here are some pictures of the garden taken today:-

Blk 85 Whampoa View Garden update

26 September 2014

Well..., its been 2 years since I last blog on the community garden. It has been decided that a new fence will be erected as the previous fencing that we erected had started to break apart.

We had discussed the layout and decided to have rectangular planting plots. This garden will be shared between the pre-school and the garden members.

Here are a few shots of what is going on:-

The last photo shows the worker hacking away the concrete that was the base of a park bench.

Will update as the work progresses...
